13.12. 2017 | KUNSTHALLE BIELEFELD SHOWS STUDENT PROJECTS FOR AN EXTENSION TO THE PHILIP JOHNSON BUILDING
Kunsthalle Bielefeld, designed by Philip Johnson and opened in 1968, is an icon of modern architecture. However, the presentation of contemporary forms of art requires flexible and separable spaces which the Johnson building cannot provide. Adenauerplatz is in direct spacial relation to the Kunsthalle. As the result of traffic planning in past decades, the “square” is dominated by cars and trams. Thus, the urban setting is in bad need of an update.
